Happy International Talk Like a Pirate Day!

AHOY, MATEYS!!!

Transformers

TransformersAfter more than a year since it was released, and having watched it countless times on HBO and/or Starz, I’m FINALLY gonna talk about Transformers.  You ready?  I know you’ve been DYING with anticipation!

I’m not even gonna bother explaining the movie like I usually do.  I mean, it’s Transformers!  Do I, a) really HAVE to, or b) does it even matter?!   Just know this:  Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox (mmm… Megan Fox), Optimus Prime, Michael Bay, Megan Fox (OMG, Megan Fox), “Battle Without Honour”, and again, Megan Fox (@#$!).

There was ALOT of room for this to be done all wrong (see, Hulk).  But, it wasn’t.  It was “Witwicky” good!  Say what you will about Michael Bay, but he does this well.  And there was no reason to expect anything less from him.  Look at his resume!  Bad Boys, The Rock, Armageddon.  All good movies.  All made well.  Transformers was no exception.  Make no mistake though, this movie was not a remake of the original animated movie.  Nor was it an extension of the cartoon from 1985.  And it isn’t a kid’s movie either.  Not that kids couldn’t watch it, though.  Think of it as a movie made for the kids that used to watch the cartoon after hoppin’ off the bus from the fourth grade, but have now all grow’d up.  And those grow’d up kids shant be disappointed.

P.S.  Megan Fox!!!

OVERHEARD AT WORK

“That thing was so big, I couldn’t even put it in my mouth!” declared Johnny Cakes.

OVERHEARD AT WORK

Jitterbug made the hat trick today. 1) “T-bags are gonna be flyin’ everywhere!” 2) “It can get real messy in there,” and 3) I took my boy to the tranny shop.” Hilarity ensued.

Analog Heart (David Cook)

Analog Heart“Analog Heart” is the CD that David Cook made back in 2006, before he went on “American Idol”. It hasn’t been “officially” released but it can certainly be found out there on the interweb with a little um… creativity.

Two words. Hot. Ness. EASILY one of the best albums I’ve heard in a very, very long time. If not, ever. Yeah. I went there. It’s that good. There isn’t even a single track that I’d “pass” on. I could listen to the whole thing, from beginning to end, over and over — and I have.

It’s well-written. It’s got a good rock sound and edge, but still has catchy melodies that help keep it stuck in your head. I can’t even pick out one song as my favorite. They’re all so good. Cook’s voice and conviction is strong enough to carry the harder tracks like “Stitches”, “Porcelain”, and “Let Go”. But he’s also subtle and genuine in his ballads “Makeover” and “Silver” — which also don’t get boring or allow my mind to wander like most ballads do. And “The Truth” couldn’t be more relevant to my life right now. In fact, the whole dang thing could be the soundtrack to my life at the moment.

And I haven’t even mentioned “Straight Ahead”, “Don’t Say a Word”, “Fall Back Into Me”, or “Searchlights” — which are far better than simple filler. They, too, are great tracks with average Joe lyrics that anyone should be able to relate to.

Anyway, stop listening to me go on and on about this guy and get out there and support the best thing to come out of “American Idol” since, well, half-naked pictures of Antonella Barba. Okay, fine… Chris Daughtry was pretty good too. And Carrie Underwear –I mean “wood”– is nice to look at. Oh you know what I mean… JUST DO IT!
